We are often told to give a person his/her flowers while they are alive but we almost always seem to let that moment slip by. The history of Jamaicans.com cannot be written without Marcia Davidson. “She joined the website in 1996 as the very first moderator and revolutionized our bulletin boards. Her ideas grew our forums to what it is today and there are many articles she has written for the site which provided information to many Jamaicans.com site visitors.” She loved the Jamaicans.com website and the community here and we in turn loved her.
Who better to tell us about her than her: (from the site contributors’ page).
Hiya! I'm Marcia Davidson, a.k.a. Ackeegirl. One of the daughters of Kingston, Jamaica. I received my Primary & Tertiary Education: Kingston, Jamaica and my Professional & Post Secondary Education: Ontario, Canada. Currently I am a Business Administration & Information Systems Professional working in the Service of the Government.
MY INTERESTS: Motivational thinking. All things Jamaican. The positive upliftment of my people - each one teach one. Advancing and advocating the emerging Jamaican Influence on the world village. Doing mylittle part to keep the flag flying.
FUN THINGS I LIKE: The X-Files series. Surfing the "net". Breakfast at Hillshire Beach ("Festival" and "Fried Fish"). Boston "Jerk Chicken." A good Jump-up session at Asylum. The odd weekend at Trident. The buzzing of the Hummingbird on the hibiscus tree while I read a book under a cool shady tree and drinking some jelly coconut water. An evening of laughter at the Pantomime. Any weekday or night rafting on the Rio Grande. Sunday morning at church just giving Praise and fellowshipping. An opportunity to explain to all foreigners that I am from the "De Rock" that the Capturer Christobal Colon calls "Oracabessa, De Rock of Gold, the finest eyes have behold." A helicopter ride up to New Castle and Cinchona Gardens. A sunset dinner in Negril. The odd drink at Peppers and small talk with longtime friends.
PHILOSOPHY: Success can be its own undoing. It can breed complacency, false pride and personal under-development. These are the enemies of self-esteem and of excellence.
"We are what we repeatedly do. Excellence then is not an act, but a habit." – Aristotle.
Today, though untimely, we offer you your flowers Marcia. We salute you for who you are, the qualities you possessed and most importantly for ever so gently, but assuredly, touching our lives in your own special way.
